H1N1 Flu

When the State of Texas became ground zero for the H1N1 outbreak in 2009, BCFS EMD was tasked by the Department of State Health Services to provide incident management support for public health operations directed by Region 8, which is home to more than 3 million people.

BCFS EMD’s Incident Management Team supplemented the state’s efforts to manage the pandemic by serving in the roles of Deputy Incident Commander, Public Information Officer, Operations Section Chief, Plans Section Chief. Our organization also created an on-site emergency operations center outfitted with high-tech communications equipment to ensure robust situational awareness.

Following the initial response, the Department of State Health Services contracted with BCFS EMD to manage the oversight of H1N1 inoculation to all state agency employees.
